Peter Wesley Williams

	Peter Wesley Williams, 85, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:00 A.M., Saturday, July 10, 2004 at home.
	Pete was a watchmaker, jeweler, and owner of Higgins Jewelry Store in Du Quoin for 47 years. He was a co-founder and member of Du Quoin's first business association, now known as the Chamber of Commerce. When he retired he wanted the citizens of Du Quoin to enjoy the clock which had been in the Higgins Store since 1869. The clock was moved to the Du Quoin State Bank Building where it currently stands. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks in Du Quoin and was a member of the First Christian Church where he had served as deacon, elder, and trustee. He was a member of the Du Quoin American Legion. He had served in the Navy during World War II. He enjoyed bowling with his friends. He was a member of the bowling team which won the Elks National tournament several years ago. He loved to play golf and had the distinction of making a hole in one at the Red Hawk golf course on each of two consecutive days in 1992.
	Pete was born January 24, 1919 at Goreville, IL the son of Peter and Sarah E. (Lannon) Williams.
	He married Frances Faye Wright on May 11, 1940 at Cape Girardeau, MO and she survives.
	He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, son- Gary Williams and wife Joyce of Newark, OH, two granddaughters- Ann and Joy Williams of Newark, OH, a favorite niece- Marcia Robison and husband Kenny of Goreville, IL, also many other nieces and nephews. He was dearly loved by his family and friends.
	He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers- John, Chet and Marshall Williams, sister- Mary Crawford.
	Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Dr. John Lewis officiating.
	Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
	Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
	Military graveside rites were conducted by the Du Quoin American Legion and Du Quoin VFW.
	Friends may make memorials to the Luke Memorial Hospice.
